General guidance for fitting suspension and exhaust parts from GT Street. Always confirm exact torque figures against your vehicle's workshop manual — the values below are typical ranges for guidance only and are not a substitute for manufacturer specifications.

Before you start

  • Work on a level surface with the vehicle properly supported on rated axle stands — never rely on a jack alone.
  • Replace suspension components in pairs (both fronts or both rears together) to keep handling balanced, even if only one side has failed.
  • Reuse OE spring seats, top mounts and bump stops unless a full kit including new hardware has been supplied.
  • If you are not confident completing the fitment yourself, use a qualified suspension or exhaust fitter. Incorrect torque or assembly can affect vehicle safety.

Shock absorbers & struts (Bilstein B4 / B6 / B8)

Typical strut top nut torque: 40–65 Nm depending on vehicle — always check the make/model spec. Lower mounting bolts vary widely by application, commonly 80–140 Nm. Compress and extend the damper fully by hand before fitting to bleed any air introduced during transit.

Coilover kits (Bilstein B14 / B16 / EVO S / EVO SE)

  • Set ride height evenly side-to-side before final lock-ring torque — measure from a fixed reference point (guard lip to hub centre) on both sides.
  • Lock rings are typically hand-tight plus a partial turn with a strap wrench — avoid over-tightening threaded bodies, which can damage the coating and make future height adjustment difficult.
  • A wheel alignment (camber, toe, and ride height re-check) is essential after any coilover installation, and after every ride-height adjustment. Book this immediately after fitment.
  • Some kits require wheel spacers on factory wheel/tyre combinations — check the product description for this note before ordering.

Sway bars (H&R)

End link nuts are typically torqued to 45–65 Nm. Fit sway bars with the vehicle at normal ride height where possible (or use a floor jack under the control arm to simulate ride height) to avoid pre-loading the bushings incorrectly.

Exhaust systems (XForce / Remus / Akrapovic)

  • Always fit new gaskets and clamps where supplied — reusing old gaskets is a common cause of exhaust leaks post-install.
  • Fit the system loosely first, aligning all hangers and clearances (heat shields, diffuser, fuel tank) before fully tightening any joint.
  • Standard exhaust clamp torque is typically 25–35 Nm — avoid overtightening slip-joint band clamps, which can crack under excess torque.
  • Run the engine and check for leaks and rattles at idle and under light load before considering the install complete.

4x4 lift kits & touring/towing suspension (Bilstein B60 range)

These are heavier, load-rated kits and torque specs vary significantly by vehicle and kit tier (Light Duty vs Medium-Heavy Duty). Always follow the specific fitting instructions included with your kit. A wheel alignment and, where relevant, a compliance check are strongly recommended after any lift kit installation.
